This meeting focused on institutional investors and corporate governance, enhancing board effectiveness, the impact of stock exchanges on corporate governance, corporate governance of non-listed companies, evaluating boards of directors and corporate social responsibility.
Taking place in Cairo on 23-24 June 2010, this meeting covered the first 2 chapters of the OECD Guidelines on Corporate Governance of State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) on ensuring an effective legal and regulatory framework for SOEs and the state acting as an owner in the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region.
The 4th Annual Meeting of the Egyptian Institute of Directors, co-organised by the OECD, focused on corporate governance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
This meeting focused on the preparation of a stock-taking report to review the corporate governance progress and remaining challenges in 13 Asian Economies since 2003 as well as a scoping paper to assess priorities for future Asian Roundtables.
This meeting focused on progress in implementing regional policy recommendations, an in-depth review of the country experiences of Malaysia and Korea and SOE-related issues of current relevance to the Asian region.
Two Governance Reform topics were the focus for discussions at this 2nd meeting of the Global Network on Privatisation and Corporate Governance of SOEs, namely SOE board nomination, functioning and evaluation; and establishing, organising and reforming SOE ownership entities.
Organised in Paris on 1 March 2010, task force discussions focused on transparency and accountability and the selection and quality of the boards of SOEs.
The MENA-OECD Task Force on Corporate Governance of SOEs will take place in Paris, France on 1 March 2010.
Focus of this particular meeting will be on two governance reform topics that task force members have identified as priorities for the region:

The OECD has co-organised and participated in the first annual meeting of the Union of Arab Stock Exchanges, a regional body assembling the constituencies from all exchanges in the Middle East and North Africa region, held on 7-8 December in Cairo, Egypt.
Discussions at this meeting focused on 3 issues in response to the financial crisis that are high on the agenda in the Latin America region – the role of boards, including their role in risk management; corporate governance of financial institutions; and the need to ensure good governance of state-owned assets, including pension funds, sovereign wealth funds and state-owned enterprises.
