07/11/2018 - Today, Asian companies are the world’s largest users of public equity financing. Half of the world’s listed companies are in Asia and thousands of them are listed or traded outside their home market. Moreover, household savings outside of Asia in the form of pension funds, insurance companies and other intermediaries have increased their investments in Asian listed companies.

The increased importance of Asian capital markets will also affect the market for a range of services, including investment banking activities, where both regional and international banks are now active.

The 2018 edition of the OECD Equity Market Review of Asia provides a comprehensive overview of key developments in Asian stock markets, such as IPO activities, secondary offerings, the evolving stock exchange landscape, corporate ownership structures and investment banking activities. A special focus chapter discusses the potential for blockchain technology in primary public equity markets.

This review was launched at the 2018 Asian Roundtable on Corporate Governance in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 7 November 2018.
