Insecurity, fragility and conflict negatively affect the lives of millions and continue to pose a pressing challenge to a safer and more equitable world. Their complexities require coherent responses. INCAF strives to better understand their drivers, dynamics and interconnection and supports policy makers, operational staff and developing countries to strengthen effective and legitimate state functions, prevent conflict, and promote sustainable peace and security. It provides cutting-edge conceptual and policy advice, guidance on programming that works, and monitors international engagement to ensure it accords to agreed principles, standards and best practices.
INCAF’s work in this area is organised under four headings, statebuilding, security and justice, armed violence reduction and peace processes.

Security and justice
