The DAC Network on Development Evaluation contributes to better development results using evaluation to build a strong evidence base for policy making and for learning. A few words about the Network. |
Understanding the role of evaluationRobust, independent evaluation of development programmes provides information about what works, what does not and why. This learning contributes to improving the development effectiveness of aid and helps hold donors and partner country governments accountable for results. As a platform for evaluation learning and co-ordination, the Evaluation Network develops shared norms and standards and facilitates our members' efforts towards joint work by encouraging them to share and co-ordinate their plans for future evaluations. |
Encouraging good practiceHow should you plan an evaluation, consult with stakeholders and follow up on findings and recommendations? We address these questions in our internationally backed framework for evaluating development policies and programmes. We also address good evaluation practice in challenging emerging areas, including:peacebuilding; budget support; impact assessments and multilateral effectiveness. |
Supporting collaborationCo-ordinated and collaborative evaluations can not only deepen and broaden the level and scope of analysis, but also streamline fragmented efforts. As part of our work on joint evaluations, we act as a co-ordinating hub.To facilitate the transition towards ownership advocated by the Paris Declaration, we support efforts to build capacity among developing countries to perform and collaborate in evaluations. |
