Chile, now on the path to becoming the OECD’s newest member, is emerging from recession relatively fast on the back of government stimulus measures and a rebound in copper export prices, says the latest Economic Survey of Chile.

Chile: Signs up as first OECD member in South America

Chile will become the OECD’s 31st member and its first in South America under an accession agreement signed on 11 January at La Moneda in Santiago by OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría and Chilean Finance Minister Andrés Velasco in the presence of President Michelle Bachelet. Chile’s membership will become official once necessary formalities, including parliamentary approval, have been completed. 

International Economic Forum Latin America and the Caribbean 2010 in Paris

For the second year in a row, European, Latin American and Caribbean Ministers, Heads of International Organizations, and Chief Executive Officers from the business and financial communities will gather in Paris to discuss post-crisis scenarios for the region next 25 January 2010. Topics will highlight  macroeconomic policies, the evolution of trade and commercial policies, and the emergence of new business models.
