Launch of the Practical Guide to Corporate Governance: Experiences from the Latin American Companies Circle, New York, USA
The Practical Guide to Corporate Governance: Experiences from the Latin American Companies Circle highlights the challenges, priorities and tangible benefits of adopting leading corporate governance practices in the region. The publication offers a first look at Latin American company results during the recent period of financial crisis showing that firms recognized for better corporate governance practices suffered less damage than average listed Latin American companies.

5th meeting of the Companies Circle, Medellín, Colombia
The Companies Circle met in Medellin, Colombia back-to-back with the 8th meeting of the Latin American Roundtable on Corporate Governance. The main results of this meeting included: the election of the Circle’s next Chairman – Mr. Carlos Raul Yepes Jimenez, Legal Vice-President of Argos (Colombia); welcoming Mexico’s Homex to become the fourteenth member of the Circle; and agreement to seek the Circle’s further expansion. The Circle also decided to finalize and launch next year a step-by-step guide to implementing corporate governance improvements in Latin American companies. Several Circle members presented their experience at an awareness-raising event hosted by the Medellin Chamber of Commerce.

IFC/OECD/GCGF Seminar: “Governança Corporativa: sua empresa está realmente preparada para o mercado de capitais?” (Corporate Governance: is your company really prepared for the capital markets? Learn from the successful experience of Companies Circle leaders).
The seminar was set to present some cases of the Circle as a reference in the region, offering the opportunity to exchange experiences with some companies considering listing. Some Circle members presented their cases: NET (Francisco Valim), Marcopolo (José Rubens de la Rosa), Pedro Passos (Natura), Ultrapar (Pedro Wongtschowski), CCR (Eduardo Andrade).
The event also presented cases of companies recently listed - Bematech and Lupatech - and a closed company, Fleury Medicina e Saúde.

The Why and How of Implementing Good Corporate Governance – The first meeting of Companies Circle, with the support of Centro de Excelencia en Gobierno Corporativo, in Mexico gathered middle size companies in a half day seminar. The first panel by institutional investors discussed how corporate governance affects their decision-making process pre- and post-investment. The cases of Companies Circle members were presented in three thematic panels as follows:

Companies Circle-Investor Dialog: A meeting with institutional investors prior to the 7th Latin America Corporate Governance Roundtable, in Buenos Aires, was organized on June 21 to promote an exchange of ideas and experiences between leading practitioners of good corporate governance among Latin American companies and international and regional investors.
