1/3/2010 - OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría expressed sympathy and solidarity with the people of Chile in the wake of the tragic effects of the earthquake.  Offering assistance to the citizens and government of Chile, Mr. Gurría said:

“Our hearts and minds are with Chileans in these difficult circumstances. The strength of the people, their government and the economy of Chile will help you through this. As the newest member of the OECD, you can also count on our significant expertise in public governance, regional planning, territorial development and school construction to assist in forthcoming reconstruction efforts."

Mr. Gurría was in contact with Chilean authorities and offered them OECD’s support as they draw up strategic long-term plans for the affected areas, prioritize public sector investments and reactivate economic and business activity.
