Building a network to enhance productivity and well-being

Hosted by a number of local partners, this first OECD meeting on Mining Regions is designed to build a network for knowledge-sharing about regional development issues for regions and cities that are specialised in mining and extractive industries. The network will be composed of experts, policymakers and practitioners with a consultative role.

OBJECTIVE

The event is a starting point for the creation of a platform to share lessons and develop a strategic framework among mining regions and their cities to enhance co-operation and increase productivity and well-being.

 

WHO WILL ATTEND?

Leaders and practitioners from regional and national governments, the industry (mining companies, suppliers, and industry associations), educational and non-governmental organisations, as well as experts on mining and extractive industries across both OECD and non-members countries.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN AT THE EVENT?

Presentations from national and international experts as well as policy and industry leaders; networking opportunities; and knowledge exchange on:  

  • Policies to help develop the mining industry that support productivity and innovation; strengthen diversification efforts around mining activities; and lead cities and regions towards a diversified and competitive economy. 
  • Good practices for quality of life that address well-being challenges affecting cities and regions with a high degree of dependency on mining activity and extractive industries.
  • Subnational governance and good practice models that address the complex relationships between national governments, the mining industry and local stakeholders, in relation to issues of economic development and well-being.
