INTEGRITY AND TRANSPARENCY IN THE WATER SECTOR

Strategies and solutions for better integrity and transparency in the water sector exist, and are backed-up by extensive knowledge, science and technologies.

Implementation is challenged by a series of gaps in the water sector, including:

  • territorial and institutional fragmentation,
  • limited capacity at different levels,
  • lack of information disclosure,
  • lack of human and financial resources,
  • low level of stakeholder engagement.

OECD TOOLKIT FOR INTEGRITY

The Water Integrity chapter to the OECD Toolkit for Integrity (page 325) suggests a priority checklist for governments, business and civil society to assess the main gaps in their integrity frameworks. The toolkit also considers solutions for enhancing water integrity and governance.
