LEED Programme (Local Economic and Employment Development)

4th International Conference on Entrepreneurship: Contexts, Locales and Values (Paris, 22-24 September 2004)

The 4th conference of the International Entrepreneurship Forum (IEF) was jointly organised by the OECD LEED Programme, the University of Essex and the University of Paris Dauphine, Paris France. This event provided for research based insights and a forum for the sharing of experience-by policy makers and practitioners.  Two streams of papers were acceptable to the conference: (1) Papers based on academic research, (2) Papers based on policy and/or based on practitioners’ reflections. See practical information.

The theme of the 4th IEF Conference was ‘Entrepreneurship: Contexts, Locales and Values’, with a broad definition of the terms to cover the activities of people and institutions in different environments and the values derived from such activities.  Four key areas of discussion and deliberation were covered in this conference:

  1. Entrepreneurial People and their values
  2. Entrepreneurial Organisations and their values
  3. Regional contexts and regional social capital and values for enterprise creation and innovation
  4. Social values for and economic benefit through entrepreneurship

Conference in Paris
The conference theme reflects highly topical and critical issues shaping entrepreneurship policy, research, education and training. The idea of the significance of the context in which entrepreneurship is nurtured and in which it thrives, is crucial to our understanding of how innovative people launch new ventures in particular environments. In this regard both organisational and geographical contexts are relevant, as they include the institutions, key stakeholders, the knowledge base, culture and values that inform entrepreneurial activity. Inherent in these contexts is the social capital that influences and enables the harnessing of economic resources through connected people and organisations.

Venue: Hotel Novotel Seine, 75015 Paris, France

Conference Dates: 22- 24 September 2004.
