Ireland: Boosting local jobs and growth – international experts meet in Dublin and Kilkenny

22/03/2013 - Cutting unemployment and fostering new sources of economic growth will be the focus of an international meeting of local development experts and practitioners in Dublin and Kilkenny on the 26 and 27 March 2013.

The annual meeting of the OECD’s Local Economic and Employment Development (LEED) Forum on Partnerships in Local Government is being held as part of Ireland’s Presidency of the European Union. Richard Bruton, TD, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation and Yves Leterme, Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD, will be opening speakers.

A series of workshops will explore how Ireland can learn from successful international and local practices as it implements its own reforms. The topics will include the role of training agencies; rural employment strategies; jobs for youth; enabling growth and investment; supporting high growth-potential firms and making shrinking communities more resilient.

Further details about the meeting can be found at: http://www.oecd.org/cfe/leed/9thfplgmeeting.htm

The meeting is open to the media. Journalist enquiries should be made to Bernie Furlong at Pobal on: +353 (0)1 511 7135 or +353 (0)87 254 9148.
