Bribery: OECD invites Colombia to join Anti-Bribery Convention
The OECD today invited Colombia to join its Working Group on Bribery and to accede to the Anti-Bribery Convention. OECD Deputy Secretary-General Richard Boucher signed an exchange of letters with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos.

Latin America Conference
In the framework of the OECD-Latin America Anti-Corruption Programme, the Office of the Comptroller-General of Brazil and the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) will hold the Latin America Conference on Corporate Responsability for Promoting Integrity and Fighting Corruption from 21-23 July,2010 at the Centro Fecomérico de Eventos, Sao Paulo, Brazil.

2010 Peer Review of Competition Law and Policy in Brazil
The 2010 Peer Review of Competition Law and Policy in Brazil was launched in Sao Paulo on 14 May 2010. This is the second peer review of Brazil undertaken by the OECD in partnership with the IDB. The report documents considerable progress made since 2005 and highlights what more could be done to implement the structural changes envisaged in the proposed revisions to Brazil's competition law.

The rise of the Asian Consumer: Asia's middle could become a major driver of the global economy
The shift in the global production of goods towards Asia is well documented. But global consumer demand has so far been concetrated in the rich economies of the OECD. Will consumer demand also shift towards Asia as these countries get richer? This working paper by Homi Kharas, OECD Development Centre Non Residential Fellow is the first in the Global Development Outlook series on "Shifting Wealth". Kharas shows that by 2020 more than half the world's middle class could be in Asia, and could account for over 40 per cent of global middle class consumption - a major force in the global economy.

The second cycle of the Global Forum on Development kicked off in Paris on 28th January with a plenary on "domestic Resource mobilisation: The Taxation Challenge". It was the first time that the tax and development communities - from goverments, academia, civil society and business - came together to better understand the key links between tax and development.

Latin American economic leaders discuss recovery in 2010 at Paris forum
Latin American and Caribbean countries have not escaped the global financial crisis, but have weathered the storm more successfully than un past downturns, due to better macroeconomic management, more efficient structural policies, and a vigorous business sector. However, important challenges lie ahead for the region. These are some of the conclusions reached by the 500 policy makers, business leaders and economist participating at the II International Economic Forum - Latin America and the Caribbean 2010, held today in Paris.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Inter - American Development Bank (IDB) agreed to collaborate more closely in generation and disseminating good and public policy that will favor economic and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
