Policy Brief: Economic Survey of Canada, 2008

Canada’s economic performance has been among the best in the OECD as a sound policy framework has enabled the country to take advantage of strong global growth and soaring terms of trade. The economy has adapted well to recent shocks, as labour and capital have shifted rapidly from manufacturing towards the resource and service sectors, with strong net job increases. Overall supply has benefited from rising participation rates.

Water: an Under-Delivered Promise

In his speech delivered at the Conference of Montreal, Angel Gurría underlined that growing pressures from agriculture, energy production and industries were imperilling our water resources. He affirmed that all countries - OECD and developing countries alike – need to introduce urgently policy reforms and scale-up best practices to avoid dire consequences.

Official visit of the Secretary-General to Canada (8-11 June 2008)

During his official visit to Canada, Angel Gurría attended the Conference of Montreal and met with representatives from the Government of Quebec and the Federal Government in Ottawa.
