Governments are increasingly called upon to respond to a variety of concerns raised
by society in many areas such as the environment, animal welfare and food safety.
And they are asked to do so in a coherent manner. To address any market imperfections,
governments have a number of options available to intervene, including regulatory,
subsidy or tax based measures.
This publication contains statistics on fisheries and aquaculture in OECD countries from 2003 to 2010. Information is provided on government financial transfers, total allowable catches, landings, employment, fleet capacity and aquaculture production.
