COVID-19 is accelerating an already rapid digital transformation. During the crisis, we have increasingly relied on digital technologies to keep businesses running, children learning and families connected. We must now set our sights on shaping digital policies for an inclusive, green and resilient recovery.

At the OECD, we are revising our Recommendation on Broadband Development to promote widespread, affordable and high-quality communication services that can help narrow the digital divide.

We are also providing leadership in technology governance. Last year, we launched the first ever intergovernmental standard for the responsible stewardship of trustworthy Artificial Intelligence. The OECD AI Principles provide guidance to encourage innovation and trust in AI systems, ensuring respect for human rights and democratic values. Our AI Policy Observatory is now helping countries put these Principles into practice.

And as we think about a digital future, we are thinking about the leaders of tomorrow. The OECD is actively working with policymakers and stakeholders to help create a safe and beneficial digital environment for children.

Ladies and gentlemen:

The OECD is more committed than ever to helping countries place inclusive, people-centred digital policies at the heart of their agendas. We look forward to working with all of you. Together we can build back better.
