OECD work on public expenditure focuses on analyses of the efficiency and effectiveness of public spending programmes.  Key aspects examined include: budget processes, public management approaches, allocation mechanisms, in particular the degree of competitive pressures in producing publicly-financed goods, and the targeting and monitoring of social welfare benefits, as well as the assignment of spending responsibilities across government levels.

This work is published in the context of Economic Surveys , and, in some cases, in the Economics Department Working Papers  series.

The OECD also reports on recent developments in public spending policies and publishes data for key public spending variables for all Member countries. This work is published in the OECD Economic Outlook and in the Economic Surveys.
