The current OECD activity on the distributive effects of environmental policy builds on earlier work undertaken by the Environment Directorate which has mainly focused on the distributive effects of the use of economic instruments.

Work on the environment-employment link has a long tradition in OECD. Analysing the direct and indirect, short-term and long-term employment effects of environmental policies has become particularly relevant in the context of sustainable development.
