The OECD aims to assist countries to implement effective and efficient policies to address climate change by conducting policy-relevant research and analysis. Mitigation of GHG emissions, adaptation policies, analysis of the connections between sustainability and climate change, and incentives and possible approaches to achieve long-term policy objectives are essential elements of the programme. The OECD and the IEA, through the Annex I Expert Group on the UNFCCC, are supporting Annex I countries in their efforts to build a solid and efficient international policy response to climate change. The Group's recent work includes Long Term Issues (including technology collaboration and evolution of mitigation commitments), Emissions Trading and Project-based Mechanisms, and Domestic Policies and Measures. Analysis on the linkages between energy and climate change are included in the OECD Environmental Outlook as well as publications focusing on sustainable development. The OECD continues to examine the link between development and climate change which, in addition to identifying suitable mitigation and technology options, also examines the costs of the impacts of climate change and appropriate adaptation strategies. The OECD, together with the IEA, provides a mechanism for policy dialogue on international climate issues. Top of page |
