The Economics Department works to provide better understanding of structural policy isues by analysing national policies and policy requirements within a cross-country framework and synthesising the main policy lessons learnt. The issues to be studied can and do change from year to year, depending on developments in the world economy and the priorities of the Member countries.

Currently, in addition to work on economic growth, product markets and labour markets, the Department is examining the public finance implications of ageing populations and finalising its studies on environmental issues and sustainable development.
