The Committee for Industry, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) looks at economic behaviour at firm and sectoral levels to complement macro-level analyses by other OECD bodies. It examines developments in industry, issues of industrial adaptation, and trends in related policies. It holds Business and Industry Policy Forums to explore issues with the private sector and develop policy recommendations. Identifying Micro-policies for growth is done through comparing country performance on growth drivers: entrepreneurship, innovation and ICT. Country peer reviews highlight effective approaches for strengthening the long-term growth of industry. Industry-related analytical and statistical activities cover both manufacturing and service sectors, ranging from steel to tourism. The performance and policy implications of industrial globalisation -- through trade, foreign investment, technology sales, mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, electronic commerce, etc. -- are an important analytical focus. At national and international levels, the contributions and challenges of both large firms and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are assessed. Industry-related analysis is based on the collection of industrial statistics, the development of indicators, and the modelling of structural change across sectors and countries. Particular attention is given to improved measurement of industrial productivity, industrial globalisation and enterprise demography. Work is ongoing to improve development of comparable statistics in non-OECD countries. MoreTop of page |
