Building Competitive Regions: Strategies and Governance

This report assesses the strategies pursued by OECD member governments to address the competitiveness of regional economies and the accompanying governance mechanisms on which the implementation of these strategies rests. The report is principally based on findings from the series of reviews undertaken by the OECD Territorial Development Policy Committee at national and regional levels.

Territorial Reviews, Japan

The OECD Territorial Review of Japan is now available from the OECD Online Bookshop.  It is integrated into a wider programme of national territorial reviews undertaken by the OECD Territorial Development Policy Committee. The overall aim of the territorial review series is to provide practical policy advice to national governments.

A new OECD study says the Korean government and the Seoul region must work together to make the city more inviting to foreign investors and tourists if it hopes to take advantage of globalisation. As the capital city of Korea, the metropolitan region of Seoul is confronted with crucial policy challenges in terms of economic development and governance on Seoul's policies for international competitiveness, urban regeneration, institutional and fiscal governance.

The international conference on New Approaches to Rural Policy: Lessons from Around the World was convened by the:
Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, OECD, Rural Policy Research Institute, and The Countryside Agency.

More than 120 senior policy officials and experts from 15 countries (including all G7 countries) gathered at Airlie Center near Washington, D.C. on March 25-26 to discuss the future of rural policy.
