No. 14 in OECD Series on Principles of Good Laboratory Practice and Compliance Monitoring: The Application of the Principles of GLP to in vitro Studies

08-déc.-2004

This Advisory Document of the Working Group on Good Laboratory Practice was developed in 2003 and 2004 with the assistance of experts in in vitro testing. This area of non-clinical safety testing is especially important in light of animal welfare concerns. The document should be considered together with the OECD Principles of GLP (No. 1 in the series) and the Consensus Document on the Application of the Principles of GLP to Short-Term Studies (No. 7 in the series.)

New Chemical Assessment Comparisons and Implications for Work Sharing

03-déc.-2004

This document summarizes the main conclusions from the comparison studies from the Rome Workshop Aligning National Systems for New Chemical Notification and Assessment and from the Washington Work Group Meeting on Comparison of New Chemicals Assessments. It focuses on areas of similarities and differences in the overall risk assessment process used by the various jurisdictions. Furthermore, it identifies areas for cooperation and information sharingand presents obstacles for certain aspects of the risk assessment, including legislative barriers which affect the scope of the assessments.

Experts call for internationally co-ordinated efforts on toxicogenomics

10-nov.-2004

Toxicogenomics refers to newly developed methods to detect changes in the activities of genes and other molecular-level responses for the assessment of human and environmental safety of chemicals. The OECD, with the International Programme on Chemical Safety, held a workshop on toxicogenomics in Kyoto, on 13-15 Oct 2004. The 56 experts that attended the workshop called for co-ordinated international activities for advancing the research in this field and exploring the use of this technology for the safety of chemicals.  The Workshop Report can be found at the above link.

A Vision for the Future: A Global Approach to the Regulation of Agricultural Pesticides

28-avr.-2004

OECD countries agree to a ten-year vision for the harmonisation of regulatory approaches for agricultural pesticides (chemical and biological) to facilitate and promote the sharing of work between regulatory authorities.  The highlight of this “Vision” is that by 2014, OECD countries will routinely accept dossiers prepared by stakeholders in the OECD format; will routinely exchange "monographs" containing reviews of the data submitted; and will use OECD "monographs" as a basis for independent risk assessments and regulatory decisions for new and existing pesticides.

OECD/UNEP Guidance on POP/PBT Multimedia Models Published

02-avr.-2004

OECD, in a joint effort with UNEP, published a guidance document on the use of multimedia models in the assessment of POPs (persistent organic pollutants) and PBTs (persistent, bioaccumulating and toxic substances). This document is expected to be used in the estimation of environmental persistence and long-range transport potential of chemicals in member countries, as well as for the identification of new POP substances under the UNEP Stockholm Convention.

Report of the Workshop on Communication related to Chemical Releases Caused by Deliberate Acts, Rome, Italy, 25-27 June 2003

24-mars-2004

The Report of the Workshop on Communication related to Chemical Releases Caused by Deliberate Acts, Rome, Italy, 25-27 June 2003 has been published.

Descriptions of Selected Key Generic Terms used in Chemical Hazard/Risk Assessment

13-janv.-2004

OECD and IPCS (International Programme of Chemical Safety) jointly published a report describing the key generic terms used in hazard and risk assessment of chemicals.

Emission Scenario Document for Wood Preservatives

24-déc.-2003

The first OECD Environmental Emission Scenario Documetn (ESD) on wood preservatives has been published as part of the work on biocides. This ESD will help OECD Member countries to estimate the concentrations in the environment of specific active substances used in wood preservatives.

Guidance Document on Reporting Chemical Exposure

23-déc.-2003

OECD publishes a guidance document for reporting summary information on environmental, occupational and consumer exposure to chemicals. It includes three reporting formats and guidance for using them. This guidance document will be used in reporting of the post-SIDS (Screening Information Data Set) activity to collect exposure information, and can be used in other international or national chemical assessment programmes.

OECD Governments Step up Cooperation to Guard against Chemical Terrorism

10-juil.-2003

An OECD Workshop on Communication Related to Chemical Releases Caused by Deliberate Acts, co-sponsored by the United Nations organisations which deal with chemicals management (IMO, OPCW, UN ECE, UNEP, WHO) and NATO, and hosted by the Italian Interior Ministry was held in Rome, on 25-27 June 2003.
