Climate change presents great challenges to society by raising the risk of negative impacts on human society, the economy, and the Earth. The IPCC today released the Summary for Policy Makers of its Working Group II Report on Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability. The OECD welcomes this important study, which underscores the need for strengthened policy to limit the impacts of climate change.

"Working Together to Respond to Climate Change": Seminar of the Annex I Expert Group on the UNFCCC, was held on 19 & 20 March 2007 at IEA Headquarters, Paris. It focused on four areas of discussion: national approaches to adaptation and the role of the international community; overcoming short- and long-term barriers to Clean Development Mechanism project development; technology and energy efficiency; and sectoral approaches and incentives.

Wengen 2006 Workshop - Adaptation to the impacts of climate change in the European Alps

A workshop on adaptation to the impacts of climate change in the European Alps was co-organized by the OECD, the University of Fribourg, and the EU- Ensembles project and took place in Wengen, Switzerland on October 4-6, 2006. About fifty experts and representatives from governments, NGOs, and the private sector participated to this event. Adaptation within the sectors of winter tourism, agriculture and ecosystems, natural hazards management, and water resource management were addressed during the workshop. 

Progress on Adaptation to Climate Change In Developed Countries: an Analysis of Broad Trends

This paper provides an assessment of broad trends in progress on assessment and implementation of adaptation to climate change in “developed countries”, defined here as OECD member countries and/or Parties listed under Annex I of the UNFCCC. The analysis shows that climate change impacts and adaptation receive limited attention relative to the discussion of greenhouse gas emissions and mitigation policies.

New paper from the Annex I Expert Group on the UNFCCC

The AIXG has just released an important new study on climate change: "Approaches for Future International Co-operation ", by Cédric Philibert (International Energy Agency), was published on 14 June. This paper provides a repertory of approaches for future international co-operation in climate change mitigation, based on the literature. Most options presented suggest various forms of agreements on policies and measures, and technology-focused approaches. All are building blocks for the reader to consider a much broader set of options by combining them in various ways.

Several New Annex I Expert Group Studies Released for SB-22 in Bonn (15-27 May 2005)

The Annex I Expert Group released several new papers in time for the 22nd S.B. Sessions of the UNFCCC. Three additional case studies in the "Int'l Energy Technology Collaboration and Climate Change Mitigation" series: Appliance Energy EfficiencyClean Coal Technologies  and Wind Power Integration into Electricity Systems ;  In addition, "National Approaches to Adaptation" and "Exploring Options for Sectoral Crediting Mechanisms".  They were presented at the AIXG side event in Bonn, on Monday 23 May at 1 pm.
