This new publication examines the contribution of knowledge-intensive services to the acquisition and growth of innovation capabilities in firms and public sector organisations, with a focus on four industry sectors: software, health care, tourism and leisure, and resource-based industries such as mining technology services, aquaculture and forestry. The analysis derives from a series of surveys and case studies undertaken in nine OECD countries.

Innovation in Energy Technology: Comparing National Innovation Systems at the Sectoral Level

Growing demand for energy and heightened concerns about supplies and environmental impacts are raising interest in the development and deployment of new energy technologies. This new publication reviews efforts in nine OECD countries to advance innovation in energy technology, with a particular focus on hydrogen fuel cells. It compares policies and programmes for financing R&D and stimulating market demand for innovative energy technologies.

Just Published: Governance of Innovation Systems, Volume 2: Case Studies in Innovation Policy

This volume presents case studies on governance of innovation policy in selected OECD countries. It reviews the ongoing changes in these countries with a focus on providing an analysis of challenges, institutional changes and policy learning practices. The book provides fresh insight into the emerging third-generation of innovation policy and how governments are striving to make innovation policy more coherent. Volume 1, the project synthesis report, was published in June. Volume 3, Case Studies in Cross-Sectoral Policy , has also just published.

However, recent developments have demonstrated that prevailing practices and institutions of innovation governance have come under pressure. This publication examines the sources of these pressures, and provides lessons on how governments adapt their governance practices to achieve better coherence and co-ordination of policies to promote innovation.

À partir d’un cadre de référence commun reposant sur le concept de systèmes nationaux d’innovation, il met en évidence les points forts et les faiblesses de chacun de ces pays en matière d’innovation, ainsi que l’efficacité de sa politique de l’innovation pour stimuler l’économie.

These proceedings provide a synthesis of two workshops jointly organised by the OECD and Chinese authorities in April 2004: "IPR and Economic Development in China: Meeting Challenges and Opportunities Following WTO Entry", and "IPR Issues Related to Public Research Institutions". Each event aimed at assisting China in its efforts to further improve IPR policy and enforcement by sharing the experience of OECD countries on a range of issues of special relevance and interest to Chinese policy makers and other stakeholders.
