How's life? Measuring well-being (Chapter 7 - Education and skills)

This chapter considers a few well established educational indicators that provide a basic picture of both the current educational status of the adult population and selected skills of youth, skills needed to undertake the broad range of activities essential to life in modern society.  It finds that while education has increased substantially over the past few decades, with countries converging towards a similar level of educational attainment, strong disparities remain in the quality of educational outcomes.

27/09/2011 - Investments in well-designed, multi-purpose local education facilities serve as a visible commitment to the community and a cost-effective way to revitalise local economies. That is the message from the OECD’s Designing for Education: Compendium of Exemplary Educational Facilities 2011, which presents over 60 state-of-the-art recently built or refurbished spaces with colour photographs, plans and descriptions. The Compendium brings together case studies from 28 countries, ranging from Argentina, Australia and Bangladesh to France, South Africa and the United States.

Learning outcomes are statements of what a learner is expected to know, understand and /or be able to demonstrate after completion of a process of learning. As preparatory work for the development of assessment frameworks for the AHELO feasibility study two reports on what students in economics and engineering should know nearing the end of their bachelor's degree were prepared by the Tuning association.
