The Environment, Health and Safety News is a newsletter issued approximately every eight months. Its purpose is to provide an update on the main events and activities of the OECD Environment, Health and Safety Programme. Information on new publications arising from the Programme as well as dates and venues of upcoming events and meetings are given.

On 17th-18th November2005, OECD and the Government of Armenia co-organised a conference of Ministers of Economy/Finance, Environment and Water. This document presents the conference proceedings. Ministers discussed how to address the critical situation of the water sector in EECCA countries, particularly how to finance much-needed improvements. The meeting examined progress in light of a set of guiding principles they had adopted at an earlier meeting in Almaty in 2000.

Launch of the Bilingual EECCA Environment Strategy Partnership Database

This new online tool was developed by the EAP Task Force secretariat to provide access to information on partnerships developed and implemented in countries of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA) since 2002 to facilitate and support the achievement of the objectives of the EECCA Environment Strategy. The database is available in English and Russian.

The purpose of the OECD Biotechnology Update is to provide up-to-date information on the diverse activities at OECD related to biotechnology. The newsletter is mainly intended for delegates to OECD meetings who are familiar with OECD's work. However, we hope that it also serves a purpose to the wider biotech community.

The impact of unit-based collection charges

This report explores the costs and benefits of systems for charging householders for waste. The study looks only at charges which vary with the amount and characteristics of the waste collected, referred to in the report as differential and variable rate, or DVR, charging systems. The study uses a cost-benefit approach to attempt to draw out whether the balance of effects of such systems is positive or negative.

Ce document est le rapport de l’Atelier de l’OCDE sur la Sécurité de Nanomatériaux Manufacturé qui a été tenu a Washington D.C., du 7 au 9 décembre 2005. Cet Atelier a été organisé sous les auspices de la Réunion Conjointe du Comité des produits chimiques et du Groupe de travail sur les produits chimiques, les pesticides et la biotechnologie de l’OCDE. L’atelier á été prévu pour identifier les issues associées a la sécurité des nanomatériaux manufacturés pour la santé humaine et l’environnement.
