Financing Climate Change – recent OECD work

Financing climate change is one of the key issues that needs to be resolved for a successful international climate agreement, and is a topic for G20 finance ministers to discuss in London in September. OECD works with government representatives from finance ministries, environment ministries and development co-operation agencies on several of the key issues relating to a post-2012 financial architecture.

Gurría a appelé les pays à se servir de la crise économique comme un tremplin vers une économie mondiale plus verte et durable. Il a affirmé qu’une action collective et une forte volonté politique seront nécessaires pour mettre en place des plans de relance écologiquement viables, réduire les émissions carboniques, encourager l’innovation « verte » et parvenir à un accord satisfaisant à l’issue de la conférence des Nations Unies sur le changement climatique en décembre 2009.

New OECD-IEA work to support the UN climate change negotiations leading up to COP-15

The OECD-IEA "Annex I Expert Group" released 3 new analytical reports on the post-2012 climate change framework currently being negotiated by the UN in the lead-up to COP15 Copenhagen: a) “Greenhouse gas mitigation actions: Measurement Reporting & Verification issues and options”; b) “Linking Mitigation Actions with Mitigation Support in Developing Countries: A Conceptual Framework”; and c) "Sectoral Approaches and the Carbon Market" considers the carbon market aspects of sectoral approaches to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in developing countries.

OECD participation in UN Climate Change Talks in Bonn

The OECD actively participated in the UN "Climate Change Talks Bonn" held 1-12 June 2009. On 9 June, the OECD side event "Building a global carbon market: how to achieve cost-effective GHG reductions and generate financing" took place. On 8 June it held a side event on "Building bridges: NAMAs, registries and mitigation support in the post-2012 framework" with panelists from the UK, Saudi Arabia, Korea, the European Commission, Australia, OECD and IEA.

Examens Environnementaux - Finlande (2009)

Un nouveau rapport de l’OCDE analyse les performances environnementales de la Finlande. Il fait 43 recommandations, notamment que la Finlande devrait réduire ses émissions de gaz à effet de serre, éviter une plus grande perte de sa biodiversité et protéger la mer baltique.

Ce rapport sera présenté lors d’une conférence de presse le 5 juin 2009 par les ministres finlandais Mme Paula Lehtomäki (Environment) et M. Jan Vapaavuori (Logement); et M. Lorents Lorentsen, Directeur de l’Environnement, OCDE.

New Publication in the Series on the Safety of Manufactured Nanomaterials

"Preliminary Analysis of Exposure Measurement and Exposure Mitigation in Occupational Settings: Manufactured Nanomaterials" is the eigth publication in the Series on the Safety of Manufactured Nanomaterials.  This report provides preliminary analyses and recommendations as well as brief summaries of background documents listed in the operational plan relevant to phase 1 of the project on exposure measurement and exposure mitigation.

Information on new publications arising from the Programme as well as dates and venues of upcoming events and meetings are given.

OECD Database on Research into the Safety of Manufactured Nanomaterials Public Launch on 1st April 2009

As part of the OECD activities to promote international co-operation in addressing human health and environmental safety aspects of manufactured nanomaterials, the OECD has developed a global resource which details research projects that address safety issues of manufactured nanomaterials. This database holds details of completed, current and planned research projects on safety, which are to be updated and managed electronically by delegations to the OECD Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials. It builds on the work of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
