It has been carried out to respond to enforcement officials' request for support to develop financial strategies and management regimes for enforcement agencies that follow the principles of effectiveness and efficiency. The review covers the application of cost-recovery, polluter pays, and other sound principles of public policies together with better mechanisms for cost assessment, improving financial management and budget allocations, as well as increasing efficiency of enforcement activities.

The Joint Meeting of the Chemicals Committee and Working Party on Chemicals, Pesticides and Biotechnology will be holding a Workshop on the Safety of Manufactured Nanomaterials at the end of the year. This event is being hosted by the United States in December 2005, in Washington, D.C. This Workshop is a follow up of the special session on the “potential implications of manufactured nanomaterials for human health and environmental safety ”, which was held the 7th June 2005.

The 38th Joint Meeting of the Chemicals Committee and Working Party on Chemicals, Pesticides and Biotechnology held a special session on the “potential implications of manufactured nanomaterials for human health and environmental safety”. The objective was to begin to identify human health and environmental safety issues associated with manufactured nanomaterials, which the Joint Meeting should address in the future.

The AIXG has just released an important new study on climate change: "Approaches for Future International Co-operation ", by Cédric Philibert (International Energy Agency), was published on 14 June. This paper provides a repertory of approaches for future international co-operation in climate change mitigation, based on the literature. Most options presented suggest various forms of agreements on policies and measures, and technology-focused approaches. All are building blocks for the reader to consider a much broader set of options by combining them in various ways.
