The current crisis has highlighted many corporate governance failures. As part of its strategic response, the OECD sought the contribution of stakeholders as it starts work on a set of recommendations that will address weaknesses in corporate governance that are related to the financial crisis.

A two day Round Table was held under the auspices of the OECD Working Party on SMEs and Entrepreneurship (WPSMEE) in Turin, Italy on 26 and 27 March 2009 at the invitation of the Banca Intesa Sanpaolo. The round table aimed to promote a tri-partite dialogue among governments, SMEs and financial institutions, on possible measures to help SMEs and entrepreneurs through the crisis and suggest recommendations. It will be a basis for the WPSMEE's input into the OECD Strategic Response to the Financial and Economic Crisis.

This working paper presents the role of entrepreneurship policies in supporting innovation in four OECD countries. It consists of a synthesis report based on the findings of country case studies on Korea, Mexico, Norway and Turkey. The case studies are appended to the synthesis report.

The global economic downturn is having a severe impact on the steel sector, according to government and industry representatives meeting at a joint OECD Steel Committee/ World Steel Association workshop in Kuala Lumpur. Steel demand, production, and prices have plummeted, major layoffs have been announced, and demand for key raw materials such as iron ore, ferrous scrap, and coal has declined sharply, said OECD Steel Committee Chairman Risaburo Nezu.

This review assesses Denmark’s entrepreneurial performance and benchmarks Denmark internationally as regards entrepreneurial activity and performance (notably start-up rates and high-growth trajectories of firms). It presents framework conditions for entrepreneurship and assesses the effectiveness of entrepreneurship policies. It also sheds light on the governance aspect and the division of labour between different levels of government.

It suggests ways to develop information and analysis, and identifies a number of key areas that require the attention of policy makers.
