OECD DAC tracks tsunami aid

Joint Evaluations: Recent experiences, lessons learned and options for the future

In 2004, the DAC Network on Development Evaluation commissioned a new study on joint evaluations to focus on recent experiences, new and evolving issues and the partner country perspective. A literature review and consultations with representatives of donor agencies, civil society and consultants was undertaken and a consultative workshop with developing country partners was held in Nairobi. The report to the DAC Network on Development Evaluation, Joint Evaluations, Recent Experiences, Lessons Learnt, and Options for the Future was presented by Horst Breier in June 2005.

Launch of the DAC Evaluation Resource Centre (DEReC)

This online resource centre has been developed to give easy access to a central and easily searchable database of evaluation reports and publications that have been published by the the DAC Evaluation Network and its members. DEReC currently contains over 800 evaluation reports and will help to disseminate members' publications as well as to build up the "institutional memory" of evaluations of DAC members' development co-operation efforts.  DEReC is also an online facility for accessing the combined evaluation experience of Network members.

Communique by the DAC Chairman: Belgium Called Upon to Maximise the Benefit of its Increased Aid

In 2004, Belgium was in ninth position among the DAC countries in terms of the percentage of GNI allocated to official development assistance (ODA), with a ratio of 0.41%. The DAC congratulated Belgium on its commitment to reach 0.7% by 2010, which is backed by the introduction of a legal and budgetary mechanism providing for an increase of 0.05% per year until 2010. The International Aid System: A Question of Perspective

Donors, aid agencies and recipient governments are having a hard time implementing their promises on aid. Options based on a better understanding of their diverse priorities would help make the aid system more effective. Policy makers pursuing poverty reduction and other development goals should look beyond aid to other policies and financial flows, while shifting towards more appropriate decision-making structures.

Follow-up to the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness

On 3 August 2005, Richard Manning the Chair of the DAC and Michel Reveyrand, the Chair of the Working Party on Aid Effectiveness, wrote to the heads of delegations of the Paris High Level Forum (28 February - 2 March) to inform them on the agreements reached on the targets for the 11 Indicators of Progress included in the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness.
