This document provides information on current/planned activities related to the safety of manufactured nanomaterials in OECD member countries. Information was provided by delegations who participated in the 2nd Meeting of OECD's Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials. There are also reports on relevant current activities in other International Organisations such as the ISO. In addition, delegations added a short list of highlights at the top of their submissions to give readers a general idea of key events since the 1st meeting of the Working Party.

The establishment of Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials, 14 September 2006

The OECD Council agreed to the establishment of the Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials, as a subsidiary body of the Chemicals Committee on Thursday, 14 September. This working party is established to address human health and environmental safety aspects of manufactured nanomaterials, in the chemicals sector. The 1st Meeting of the Working Party will be held 26-27 October in London, UK. The main objective of this meeting is to agree a draft Programme of Work on the safety of manufactured nanomaterials, 2006-2008, to be forwarded to the Chemicals Committee.

This document is the report of the OECD Workshop on the Safety of Manufactured Nanomaterials, held in Washington D.C., 7-9 December 2005. The workshop was held under the auspices of the OECD’s Joint Meeting of the Chemicals Committee and Working Party on Chemicals, Pesticides and Biotechnology. It was intended to identify human health and environment safety issues associated with manufactured nanomaterials. The report includes the background and objectives of the workshop as well as information on the discussions and general conclusions. There is also a French version.
