Public consultation on a risk management tool for investors in Weak Governance Zones

The on-line consultation organised by the OECD Investment Committee on a risk management tool for investors in weak governance zones ended 23 November. Responses can be viewed on the OECD website:  www.oecd.org/daf/investment/guidelines (then click on item under What's New). The risk management tool will be finalised in the first half of  2006.

Seminar "International Organizations & Civil Society" - M. Wachenfeld

On 17 November, Margaret G. Wachenfeld, consultant, led a seminar for interested staff at the OECD on "International Organisations and Civil Society", describing the impressive progress of many institutions in developing new and more effective modes of dialogue with civil society.  However, challenges remain for civil society and the institutions.

The OECD Forum, the Organisation's "civil society summit”, brings together over one thousand business and labour leaders, civil society personalities, government ministers and journalists to discuss the key issues on the agenda of the annual OECD Ministerial summit. Taking part are: Göran Persson, Prime Minister of Sweden, chair of the OECD’s 2005 Ministerial summit meeting, OECD Secretary-General Donald Johnston,Swedish Minister of Sustainable Development, Mona Sahlin and Swedish Minister for Industry and Trade, Thomas Östros, will report to the OECD ministerial summit (3-4 May 2005).

OECD Round Table discussed Freer Trade and Developing Countries at WTO Symposium, Geneva 27 May 2004

The OECD workshop on 27 May took the view that there is much to be gained from a completion of the Doha round of negotiations, but that having strong institutions and appropriate flanking policies beyond the field of trade is equally important as they can help to smooth the transition to a more global economy.
