An Evaluation of General Budget Support

The joint evaluation, An Evaluation of General Budget Support, looks at the use and effectiveness of direct payments to the budgets of developing country governments and shows that this system of delivering aid can be an effective way to strengthen the management of public financial systems in developing countries.

Should OECD Donors Deliver Aid Through Poor Country Government Budgets?

OECD donor countries now channel about US$ 5 billion – some 5 per cent of their aid – directly to the budgets of developing country governments. A new independent evaluation, released today at a conference hosted by the OECD, shows that this system of delivering aid can be an effective way to strengthen the management of public financial systems in developing countries, and has helped to improve access to services like healthcare and education.

Launch of the DAC Evaluation Resource Centre (DEReC)

This online resource centre has been developed to give easy access to a central and easily searchable database of evaluation reports and publications that have been published by the the DAC Evaluation Network and its members. DEReC currently contains over 800 evaluation reports and will help to disseminate members' publications as well as to build up the "institutional memory" of evaluations of DAC members' development co-operation efforts.  DEReC is also an online facility for accessing the combined evaluation experience of Network members.

Joint Evaluations: Recent experiences, lessons learned and options for the future

In 2004, the DAC Network on Development Evaluation commissioned a new study on joint evaluations to focus on recent experiences, new and evolving issues and the partner country perspective. A literature review and consultations with representatives of donor agencies, civil society and consultants was undertaken and a consultative workshop with developing country partners was held in Nairobi. The report to the DAC Network on Development Evaluation, Joint Evaluations, Recent Experiences, Lessons Learnt, and Options for the Future was presented by Horst Breier in June 2005.

On this site users will find - detailed information on the Network's current work programme; Network publications, guidelines and meeting documents; dedicated members' pages with background information and publications and news and events from the evaluation community.

Lessons Learned on Donor Support to Decentralisation and Local Governance

This study presents a synthesis of recent evaluations of programmes and projects supporting decentralisation and local governance in developing countries. It identifies lessons learned and areas in need of further research. It also provides a number of  findings and insights based on practical experience from various donors and countries.
