Governments looking to boost their economies, create jobs and meet environmental targets see eco-innovation as part of the solution. “With climate change and the depletion of natural resources threatening our future, we need to change the way we think, the way we live and the way we do business. We must develop new ideas and new technologies, and eco-innovation has a key role to play”, said OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria. Better Policies to Support Eco-innovation reviews national strategies to develop and disseminate environment-friendly innovations.

Speaking at the International Economic Forum of the Americas, Mr. Gurria called on all countries to use the economic crisis as an opportunity to promote ‘green’ growth. Collective action and bold political will, he said, will be necessary to draft environmentally sound stimulus packages, reduce emissions, foster green innovation, and work towards a successful UN Climate Change Conference at the end of the year.
