Résumé
Le secteur du logiciel : un profil statistique pour certains pays de l'OCDE
By constructing a statistical profile of one of the most rapidly growing information and communication technology (ICT) industries, the software industry, this paper raises issues which are, both from a statistical and economical perspective, at the heart of the changes that are taking place as the information economy spreads. Because of its intangible nature, software is difficult to measure and more easily subject to duplication and piracy. By seeking to alleviate the shortcomings of both private and public data by blending the two sources into integrated statistics, this paper allows an international comparison of a small number of software and computer services indicators for selected OECD Member countries (United States, Japan, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Finland, France and the Netherlands). Several variables highlight the dynamism of the sector within their economy, in terms of revenue and employment as well as trade. Additional information is provided on market and price trends, as well as on recent industry ranking and concentration. |
