The contribution of labour market and employment policies to addressing the needs of vulnerable workers and areas in a globalising economy

In his speech delivered at the meeting of the G8 Employment and Labour Ministers in Niigata, Mr. Gurría presented the global economic situation and its potential impact on labour markets. He underlined that domestic policies were playing a key role in enhancing the benefits from globalisation, while also addressing the needs of vulnerable workers and areas, notably by promoting skill development and life-long learning.
