Definition and Selection of Key Competencies: Executive Summary

Summary of the results of the OECD's Definition and Selection of Competencies (DeSeCo) project which provides a framework that can guide the longer-term extension of PISA assessments into new competency domains. The DeSeCo project was launched by the OECD in late 1997 with the aim of providing a sound conceptual framework to inform the identification of key competencies and strengthen international surveys measuring the competence level of young people and adults.  The project was carried out under the leadership of Switzerland and linked to PISA.
