Summary of the PSPE Data Analysis and Future Directions for HRM Data Collection

In 1993, OECD/PUMA set up the Public Sector Pay and Employment (PSPE) database and has continuously updated it. Comprising two parts, this database has provided Member countries with comparative time-series information on pay and employment statistics across the OECD countries. It has been recognised as a unique tool in that other international organisations often asked for data and quoted it in their work. It has also been used as an analytical tool for various HRM activities within the OECD itself as well as in the Member countries.

The database has been updated annually on the basis of responses from experts in Member countries. For the 1999 update, the Secretariat sent a questionnaire in July last year. Out of 29 Member countries, 15 countries returned their responses for the update.
