Statistical activities of the OECD Tourism Committee

The OECD Tourism Committee recognises the role of statistics and tourism-related economic information. In measuring the importance of the tourism industry, more efficient policies can be developed at both national and local levels to support decision-making for business and policy.

The OECD Tourism Committee strongly supports the i) development of new methodologies in the area of tourism statistics, and ii) better utilisation of tourism statistics and information through various means. Substantial ongoing projects with OECD involvement include the Tourism Satellite Account methodolodgy and the International Forum on Tourism Statistics.

Very co-operative relationships exist with other leading tourism-related organisations such as the European Commission (Eurostat) and the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).
