Presentation of the Latin American Economic Outlook 2011 in Madrid

High-level representatives from the Spanish public and business sectors were invited to comment on the two main topics of this year's Outlook: the reaction of Latin American economies to the crisis and the role of their emerging middle classes in development.

India hosts OECD forum on public finance

The OECD-DAC Task Force on Public Financial Management met in New Delhi on December 15-16 to tackle one of the major barriers to development: lack of capacity in public financial management (PFM). Hosting the meeting, Mr. Vinod Rai, Comptroller & Auditor General of India, expressed his confidence that this network will promote experience sharing for better targeting of aid, resource mobilization, and sustainable debt management. The Auditor General highlighted the importance of sharing experiences to ensure the desired outcomes of public expenditure in partner countries.

Policy Coherence for Development in a Changing World – Meeting of the National Focal Points for PCD

In a context of unprecedented changes in the world economy and major development challenges, development requires a comprehensive approach to ensure policies beyond aid are supportive of the countries’ development goals. Experts for PCD and development from OECD countries, emerging economies and developing countries, as well as from international organizations, gathered to discuss the implications of the shifting gravity of the world economy on PCD; to share policies and experiences of PCD at global and national level; and exchange views on the ways forward.

Investing in Food Security in a Global Economy

The number of malnourished people around the world is estimated to have risen to nearly one billion this year as the food, fuel, financial and economic crisis takes their toll on developing countries. How to ensure food security for the world’s poor, as part of a broader concern with feeding the world (9 billion people) in 2050, was the subject of a high-level meeting organised jointly by the OECD (DCD and TAD) and the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) on 5 and 6 May 2009 at the OECD Conference Centre in Paris.
