Launch of OECD Territorial Reviews: Randstad Holland, Netherlands, The Hague

This publication was officially launched on April 11, in The Hague, in presence of the Minister of the Economy and the Minister of Transport, followed by a one-day conference on the implementation of the key recommendations of the Review. Public officials, representatives of central and local governments, mayors, CEOs, academics, civil society representatives attended the conference and the different workshops.

More than 150 senior policy officials and experts from 21 OECD countries and delegations from India and Morocco attended this event which was inaugurated by the Prince of Asturias and Mr. Angel Gurría, Secretary General of the OECD. In 6 plenary sessions, participants discussed the importance of innovation for rural regions and the critical role of human capital and ICTs in enabling these regions to succeed in the context of globalisation.

This high-level event, co-sponsored by the Scottish Executive and the OECD, brought together the world’s leading rural policy officials and experts to examine new policy options for boosting economic investment in rural regions. Through the co-operation between private, government and academic resources, this conference provided the opportunity to strengthen existing networks and foster knowledge sharing on rural policy across the OECD.

[Conference] Competitive Cities in the Global Economy - Sevilla, Spain

Facilitating international dialogue and disseminating best practice are important aspects of our work. This conference offered an important opportunity to address key issues facing metropolitan regions throughout OECD countries.

International Conference on Knowledge-based Regional Development and Innovation, Florence (Italy), 25-26 November 2004

The OECD, the Regione Toscana, Italy and the ERIK network (European Regions Knowledge based innovation Network, are jointly organising an international meeting in Florence (Italy) on 25/26 November 2004. The meeting will address innovation and knowledge based regional development issues.

The conference will target an audience of national and regional policy makers, practionners and experts.  Participants will take stock of experiences in Member countries, contributing to diffuse assessment results and facilitating the sharing of best practices in innovation policies.

Working Party on Territorial Indicators - 8th Session

The 8th Session of the TDPC Working Party on Territorial Indicators was kindly hosted by the National Statistical Office of Portugal and took place at the Instituto Nacional de Estatística (INE) in Lisbon, Portugal. This session took the form of a workshop and delegates were invited to present papers on Patterns and Trends in Regional Competitiveness based on the data from the OECD Territorial Database.
