We regret to inform you that the Workshop that was being organised in co-operation with the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the World Steel Association on "Future Priorities for the Global Steel Industry", to be held in Beijing on 20-22 October 2010, has to be postponed. Both the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the OECD have worked closely together and did extensive preparatory work for the event. The postponement is due to organisational issues which emerged at a late stage. Despite various co-operative efforts, these issues could not be resolved in time to ensure a successful event.

Senior Government officials and industry representatives from major Steel-producing economies met in Paris on 8-9 June in the context of the OECD Steel Committee. They assessed the impact of the global economic crisis on industrial sectors and, in particular, on the steel market.

Le Comité de l’acier, forum mondial dans lequel sont examinés les problèmes multilatéraux du secteur de l’acier et les solutions envisageables, a tenu sa 64ème session à Paris-La Défense, les 22-23 mai 2008. Des représentants des gouvernements, de la sidérurgie et d’autres parties prenantes se sont réunis pour débattre de la situation et des perspectives pour le secteur de l’acier et les marchés de matières premières, les échanges d’acier, les politiques commerciales, les mesures d’aide publique à l’acier et les enjeux environnementaux.

Les 16 et 17 mai 2006, l'OCDE organisera, en coopération avec l’Institut international du fer et de l’acier et le gouvernement indien, une conférence à New Delhi sur la situation et les perspectives de l'acier. Cette conférence est une extension des travaux à haut niveau sur l'acier qui avaient débuté sous les auspices de l'OCDE en septembre 2001.

Steel Committee Meeting on 27-28 October 2005
The forthcoming Steel Committee Meeting to be held at the OECD Paris-La Défense, on the 27-28 October 2005 will focus on: i) the situation in the steel market and industry (demand for and production of steel, international trade, prices, situation in raw materials, transport situation) and ii) strategy to involve non-member economies in the Committee's work.

On 12-13 January 2005, the OECD, in co-operation with the International Iron and Steel Institute hold a conference on The Outlook for Steel. The conference is an outgrowth of the High-Level work on steel that was initiated under the auspices of the OECD in September 2001.

Senior government officials from major steel-producing economies(1) will meet in Paris on 28-29 June 2004 to (i) discuss global steel market and capacity developments, and (ii) explore ways to advance work on an agreement to reduce or eliminate government subsidies to the steel industry. Work on the subsidies agreement has reached a critical stage. A complete negotiating text reflecting the positions of participants has been drafted.

The Disciplines Study Group will meet on 9-13 February to further develop legal text for the steel subsidies agreement that is currently being negotiated. The meeting will include a consultation with industry experts on the 11th.

Capacity Working Group and Disciplines Study Group Meetings: 6-10 October 2003
The Capacity Working Group continued with its review of steel industry developments in economies participating in High-Level steel initiative. The session was followed by a meeting of the Disciplines Study Group (DSG), on 8-10 October.
Subsequent DSG meetings have been tentatively scheduled for February and April 2004.
