The Conference aimed to bring together high level experts, government decision-makers and representatives from civil society to discuss how climate change mitigation and adaptation can best be tackled in an economically efficient manner, including by ensuring sufficient incentives for participation by all.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) today released the Summary for Policy Makers of its Working Group III report on the Mitigation of Climate Change. The OECD welcomes this important study, which highlights that there is significant room to cost-effectively reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. OECD experts have actively contributed to the development of the IPCC assessment and the OECD is working to support countries to advance policies that will realise this potential in a way that is least-cost.

OECD Development and Environment Ministries and Agencies joined forces to launch a process to work in partnership with developing countries to integrate environmental factors efficiently into national development policies and poverty reduction strategies. The outcomes of the meeting were an agreed framework for common action, as well as a concrete agenda for integrating climate change adaptation into development co-operation.

The Global Forum on Sustainable Development: Development and Climate Change addressed key issues relating to mainstreaming responses to climate change into economic development planning policies. It focused on mainstreaming adaptation to climate change within developing countries, within donor portfolios on development assistance, and within OECD domestic contexts.
