The 2008 OECD Regional Forum on Trade Facilitation was organised by the OECD Secretariat and the South Africa Revenue Service, with the financial support of the European Union. It spurred constructive dialogue between key stakeholders involved in trade facilitation in Eastern and Southern Africa (e.g., trade negotiators, customs officials, private sector representatives and donors), to advance the WTO negotiations on trade facilitation.

The OECD Trade Directorate has organised a Global Forum on Trade in partnership with the World Bank, and with the support of the Government of Mexico. This Forum considered market access across various development dimensions including global (MFN) liberalisation, North-South trade and South-South trade, trade in services, and regional trade liberalisation (as a complement to multilateral liberalisation).
