The ILO and the OECD jointly organised an experts meeting on fostering employment and skills development strategies in Indonesia and the Philippines, as part of OECD LEED’s initiative on Employment and Skills Development in South East Asia (ESSSA), in Jakarta on 3 December 2008. The meeting addressed issues of decentralisation, partnerships, skills upgrading and integration of the disadvantaged in the labour market and learn the lessons from the OECD experience in these areas.

The Chinese Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the LEED Programme and the ILO organised a joint workshop on local economic and employment development strategies. The event took place within the framework of the LEED project on the Local Governance of Employment and Skills in East Asia. The workshop discussed strategies and initiatives in China and experts shared diverse lessons learned from OECD countries such as France, New Zealand and the United States. The objective of the roundtable was to present the main findings of the joint EC-OECD project carried out in 2004-2006 and to discuss the related policy recommendations with Ukrainian representatives. The meeting was co-hosted by the UNDP.

This conference discussed the findings of the expert study mission which took place in Glasgow last January and that will contribute to the new economic strategy of the City. The event was organised in partnership with Scottish Enterprise Glasgow and Glasgow City Council.

The seminar will bring together the policy makers and practitioners from the CEE and SEE countries allowing for discussion i) how to best introduce and implement prior assessment so that it serves as a tool for local strategy design and delivery ii) how to best support the local level so that evaluation becomes an opportunity for learning and stops being perceived as a threat.
