OECD-Norway Workshop on Performance-based Funding for Public Research in Tertiary Education Institutions

The OECD-Norway Workshop aims to bring together government and academic experts, and other interested parties, to discuss the latest developments and evidence on these performance-based funding systems. The workshop will include presentations on models of performance-based funding used by governments, the indicators incorporated within such models, and the impacts and consequences of these systems on institutional performance and incentives.

OECD Workshop on Transforming Innovation to Address Social Challenges: Proceedings now available

While the contribution of innovation to economic growth is well established, there is growing awareness that innovation can be used to address social challenges ranging from urban poverty and education to environmental sustainability that have resisted conventional market and government approaches to solving them.

Workshop on Policy Coherence in the Application of Information and Communication Technologies for Development

Information communication technologies (ICTs) are crucial to reducing poverty, improving access to health and education services and creating new sources of income and employment for the poor. But there are substantial discrepancies in access to ICTs between, but also within, countries, depending on key factors such as gender, rural coverage, skills and educational levels. This workshop, organised jointly by the World Bank/infoDev and the OECD, aimed to share best practices in coherent approaches to meeting development objectives laid out by Ministers.

Workshop on Innovation for Development: Converting Knowledge to Value

This workshop examined ways in which knowledge contributes to innovation, especially in developing countries. These include knowledge produced formally through research and development, and knowledge from informal and indigenous sources, that can be combined to produce value.

Symposium on Global Open Innovation Networks

This symposium at the OECD headquarters in Paris will examine the phenomenon of global open innovation from the perspective of companies and research organisations in France and Europe.  Bringing together business representatives from leading companies such GE Research, IBM, Deutsch Telekom, as well as public research organisations like the Pasteur Institut and INRIA, it will also assess the international variations in open innovation practices.

Workshop on network approaches to innovation

The objective of this workshop was to take stock of advances in social networks analysis and explore the possible use of this approach in OECD work, notably on innovation. It sought to present the network approach to economists and stimulate discussion with experts on the analytical potential of this approach for innovation analysis and measurement. Symposium on open innovation platforms (Tokyo, Japan)

While well documented in the US and Europe, open innovation strategies to mobilise knowledge and technology inside and outside firms are also being launched in Asia. To take stock of recent developments and share experience between western and Asian OECD countries, the Japanese Ministry of Economy and Industry (METI) is hosting this symposium. Workshop on Enhancing Research Performance through Evaluation and Priority Setting

In co-operation with the OECD, the Federal Public Service of Foreign Affairs of Belgium is organising a presentation of the main findings of the forthcoming OECD review of China’s innovation policy on 5 December in Brussels.

OECD-MOST conference and international business symposium, Beijing

This conference launched the synthesis report of the first OECD review on Chinese national innovation system (NIS). Based on the findings of the synthesis report, a high-level international business symposium took place back-to-back with the conference to address the issue of globalisation of R&D.
