Workshop on enhancing competitiveness in the agro-food sector: making policies work

The primary purpose of the Workshop was to examine factors that underpin competitiveness along the agro-food supply chain in the Baltic countries, drawing on the experiences of OECD countries. The Workshop focused on competitiveness at the national level and, in particular, the role of public policies in enhancing and sustaining competitiveness in the supply chain.

Examination of Ukraine's agricultural policies

Ukrainian agricultural policies were discussed at a peer examination by the members of the Committee for Agriculture. The discussion was based on the report "Achieving Ukraine's Agricultural Potential: Stimulating Agricultural Growth and Improving Rural Life" prepared jointly by the World Bank and OECD in co-operation with Ukrainian and international experts. The report was published in English and Ukrainian in September 2004.

Workshop on Income Risk Management

There are a large number of strategies that deal specifically with income risk available to farm households, but which exist against a general background of widespread government intervention that modify the risks faced by farmers. In addition, some measures are specifically designed to reduce production, price and income variability.

Workshop on rural finance and credit infrastructure in China

The main objective of this workshop was to identify bottlenecks and to suggest policies to develop a well-functioning and sustainable agricultural and rural finance system in China. The workshop brought together a high-level Chinese delegation and a wide range of international experts specialising in rural finance. Workshop proceedings were published in April 2004.
