Ahead of the G20 Summit: the Employment Outlook

Despite early signs that an economic recovery may be in sight, unemployment is likely to continue rising into 2010.  On Wednesday 16 September, ahead of his attendance at the G20 Pittsburgh Summit, OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría will brief journalists on OECD recommendations on employment policy and other issues. High-Level Forum on Sickness, Disability and Work, Stockholm, Sweden

Employment and social affairs ministers from 15 OECD countries will meet in Stockholm to discuss ways to improve sickness and disability policies and make them central to labour market strategies to deal with the impact of the current crisis and beyond. The Forum on “Sickness, Disability and Work: Addressing Policy Challenges in OECD Countries”, organised by the OECD and the government of Sweden, aims to help policy makers understand the importance of effective social and disability policies and how they can improve longer-term outcomes for the individuals concerned and society as a whole.

OECD reviews Canada’s Economy and its Job Market for Young People

OECD’s assessment of Canada’s economy and its youth labour market are very positive. Economic performance has been amongst the best in the OECD and the employment rate amongst 15 – 24 year olds is well above the OECD average. This positive overview comes with warnings and recommendations which will be outlined during a news conference at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday 11 June in the National Press Theatre.
