A high-level Iraqi government delegation led by H.E. Baqr Jabor Al-Zubaidy, Minister of Finance of Iraq, will visit OECD, May 26 – 27, to discuss a number of issues including development aid, investment, taxation and anti-corruption measures. The meeting is organised by OECD and UNDP.

OECD - FSI (BIS) Regional Seminar on Corporate Governance for Banks in Asia

This seminar brought together banking regulators and members of the Task Force of the Asian Roundtable on Corporate Governance to discuss and advance on recommendations for better governance of banks in the region.  The Financial Stability Institute of the Bank for International Settlements co-organised the meeting with the OECD.

Chile will host the next regional anti-corruption event in Santiago de Chile, on 27-28 September 2006, consisting of (1) a conference on “Detection, investigation and prosecution of bribery” with a wide range of participants from Chile and other Latin and Central American countries; and (2) a meeting of Latin and Central American investigators and prosecutors of transnational corruption addressing issues related to “Liability of legal persons”, “Mutual Legal Assistance” and “Extradition”.

ADB/OECD Anti-Corruption Initiative for Asia-Pacific held high level training seminar on strengthening mutual legal assistance and extradition

Over 80 investigators, prosecutors and experts from the Initiative’s 25 member countries and OECD countries gathered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 28-30 March to strengthen capacity for international legal cooperation, with special emphasis on practical aspects. The seminar, held in partnership with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and supported by the American Bar Association/Asia Law Initiative, was hosted by the Anti-Corruption Agency of Malaysia. Sixth meeting of the South East Europe Corporate Governance Roundtable, Istanbul, Turkey

The Sixth South East Europe Corporate Governance Roundtable Meeting took place in Istanbul, Turkey, on 17 February back to back with the Eurasia Corporate Governance Roundtable and the joint meeting of both Roundtables on 16 February. The meeting focused on corporate governance reform and the role of securities regulators and the private sector in enforcement.

Specialised Training for Prosecutors on Anti-Corruption, Buenos Aires, Argentina

This two-day anti-corruption training seminar for prosecutors was aimed at building capacity of specialised prosecutors handling corruption cases on a regular basis. The seminar, hosted by the Government of Argentina, was organised in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime as well as the Inter-American Development Bank. It was held immediately prior to the High-Level Anti-Corruption Seminar for Latin American and Spanish-speaking Caribbean Countries to promote the ratification and implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

Seminar on Corporate Governance Developments in Indonesia

On 7 September 2005, the OECD in co-operation with the Indonesian securities regulator BAPEPAM organised a half day seminar on current challenges in the Indonesian corporate governance policy framework, focusing on the role of boards in promoting good corporate governance and corporate governance in groups of companies.

Seventh Meeting of the Asian Roundtable on Corporate Governance

The seventh Asian Roundtable on Corporate Governance took place in Bali, Indonesia, on 8 and 9 September 2005. The principal agenda items for the conference included (i) corporate governance of banks, (ii) a stock take of progress in policy reforms since the publication of the Asian White Paper in 2003, (iii) the role of the board in implementing the OECD Principles of Corporate Governance, and (iv) corporate governance of state-owned enterprises.

Amid the worst current financial crisis since the 1930s, EU leaders have pledged to protect savers’ deposits. Already most OECD countries have explicit deposit insurance schemes for savings up to certain limits. In a number of countries these have now been raised temporarily.
