21st century societies are pervaded by technology in ways that change dramatically how people deal with information, knowledge management and social communication. But which specific competencies does the resulting economy require? How are today's education systems in OECD countries preparing learners for these 21st century skills and competencies?
These key issues are going to be discussed at the New Millennium Learners Conference, jointly organized by the OECD Centre for Educational Research and Innovation (CERI) and the Flemish Ministry of Education.

OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría will launch the 2008 edition of OECD’s annual Education at a Glance at a news conference at 11.00 a.m. on 9 September 2008 in Paris. This rich compendium of comparable statistics provides valuable underpinning for policy debate and decisions by education authorities.

Ministers' meeting on vocational education and training

OECD education ministers met informally in Denmark to discuss vocational education and training (VET). Evaluating Quality in Educational Facilities: PEB Working Group

To help countries improve the quality of their school buildings, grounds and equipment, PEB established an ad hoc Working Group on Evaluating Quality in Educational Facilities. At its first meeting, held in Paris on 18-19 September 2006, the working group participants discussed PEB’s existing framework on quality evaluation and ways of developing quality indicators, common user-centred tools and international quality benchmarks.

School earthquake safety in the ECO region

Global Learning Environments Summit - Sharing the Learning

This summit, held in the United Kingdom, explored trends in teaching and learning and how these are supported by the design of learning environments. Emerging Models for Learning and Innovation

This is the theme of an OECD conference in Mérida, Yucatan, Mexico. This event is the culmination of intensive reflection and field work over the past year with Mexico in the lead role as part of CERI’s “Schooling for Tomorrow” programme.
